These twinned elevators are part of the Rowley Grain Elevator Row, a Provincial Historic Resource. The United Grain Growers elevator went up in 1917 and was acquired by Alberta Wheat Pool in 1928, which built the twin beside it in 1940. When the town's Main Street later emptied out, it found a second life as a film set — most famously for the 1989 Canadian film Bye Bye Blues — and the row remains one of the last intact elevator complexes on the prairie.
