Alberta Regional Image Competition Results

The Conqueror’s Gaze

I do compete in regional and national image salons with the PPOC to try to improve my photography. It is challenging and often quite humbling. Putting your images out for criticism is difficult and sometimes it is easy to complain about the judging as being biased (that is always present because the judges are human but not a major factor).

Echoes in the Mist

In the summer of 2025, I submitted my images for consideration in the general category. I submitted one image as fine art, one in pictorial (landscapes) and two in wildlife. Previously I have had images not accepted (boo), accepted (most of my images), and merit twice. The excellence category was elusive and it truly difficult to achieve with few images getting that designation.

Morning Light in the Forest

This year was a little different. My images did quite well, with my two bear images getting the merit designation and two achieving excellence. This has me in the running for Photographic Artist of the Year for Alberta. I won’t know the results of the the selection until the end of October 2025 but fingers crossed. I am very honoured even to be considered.

The Feast Begins

Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend the regional meeting this year as I will be away trying to photograph polar bears in Churchill Manitoba at the same time. I think I am travelling home at the same time as the awards ceremony is being live streamed. I am very excited to have gotten this far but what do you think? You can drop me a line with your thoughts.
